Why is soil remediation important

Land reclamation has become a big business, but it also has a very important function to play in our society. As our population grows in the UK, there becomes an overriding question, where is everyone going to live? Existing estates and housing is said to be at bursting point; commercial and financial outlets still need somewhere to go as well. What can we do to alleviate the situation? The answer is to take old unused sites and turn them into something else.

However, it’s not as simple as just knocking down any old disused buildings and then just building away. The ground underneath the site may well be unfit for new growth or even a hazard to health. So it’s why the need for Soil Remediation Services, like those provided by soilfix.co.uk/services/groundwater-soil-remediation-services are so vital to our reclamation of brownfield land.

Most brownfield sites are classified as such for a valid reason. They were generally sites of heavy primary and secondary industry use. In many cases, they are decommissioned military bases. This means that the activity on the sites was probably polluting the environment, or the very buildings they were made from contained material that is now considered harmful. One of the most common is asbestos.

The soil must be cleaned first before it can be built on. Care also needs to be shown when removing the buildings themselves beforehand. Once this is done, the ground is then ready for the initial works. Hopefully, main supplies should already be established.
