Pigeons have been used to carry messages for a long time in human history. They can be effectively trained to fly between two locations and will do so without fail and with a lot of dedication. These birds were used during the second world war when communication was difficult for whatever reason and they did indeed save many lives.

Hospitals have been known to use pigeons to send vials of blood or medication to another hospital, several times a day. This method has the advantage of immediate delivery without postage costs or time wasted in traffic. The results of scientific tests have been shared in this way so these birds have contributed to helping people in the medical sense as well.

Of course, pigeons have also been used for less respectable purposes. Inmates have been known to get a drug delivery on a regular basis while serving time in prison. Using carrier pigeons gives inmates a position of authority in the prison, using illegal drugs as a powerful method of control over other inmates.

For many though, the pigeons are a pest. Bird populations have exploded in towns and our cities and as a result of their nesting, damage is caused to buildings and their mess can be a safety issue. For advice from Pest Control Essex, visit https://www.bpcpestcontrol.co.uk/

Sending messages via pigeon does not have to be a thing of the past because there are companies that offer the service as a unique and surprising way to communicate with family or friends. Today it can be used as a bit of fun but throughout history, many were very dependent on this communication method with it meaning the difference between life and death for many people.
