Moving house is a stressful time for us humans and can be even more so for our feline companions! If you have a cat and are planning on moving house soon, here are some tips to help that move go smoothly for you and them…

Plan Well in Advance – Moving house takes a lot of planning and when you move with a cat it is important to remember that you also need to plan for them. Booking things in advance – like your moving company for example or the vehicle from somewhere like this van rental Bristol based company https://www.autolynecarvanrental.co.uk/ . Plan for things that you will need to put in place for your cat, such as booking a cattery so they have somewhere safe to stay whilst you are moving, and finding a vet and registering with them in the area that you are moving to.

Provide Home Comforts – Cats are very territorial creatures, and they get their security from their own area. They are heavily reliant on scent to mark this and will have marked their own smell all over your current home, which makes them feel safe and happy. So, when you move to somewhere else this smell is suddenly gone and they are in a new and unfamiliar place without their scent. Take things from your old home that you can use to help comfort them in the new house. A favourite bed or blanket or a scratch post will all have strong scents of your cat on, and this helps them to settle and feel comforted.

Keep them Secure – There are times when you move that can be dangerous to your cat. Moving day of course is one of these, as it can be particularly scary for a cat, and this could cause them to have an accident or run off and get lost. It is a good idea to put them in a cattery whilst the moving process is going on, as this means that they will be safe. You will also need to transport them to the new house so make sure that you have a sturdy and secure carrier to take them in so that there is no risk of them escaping!
