In most people’s lives, there are some precious pieces of jewellery or treasured keepsakes that would cause even the most cynical of us to become heart-broken if they were to be stolen, lost or broken! Maybe you have a necklace left to you by your much-loved Mother when she passed away last year, or a boxed model of the full-sized steam-train your dad drove for forty years of his life! Maybe the item has a significant monetary value or maybe it’s more the sentimental attachment that means so much to you? Whatever it is that you cherish and want to keep safe you should not only attach a quality padlock to the case you store it in but reinforce that with a Security Seal. Make sure you have a receipt (if possible) for the item and take photographs so you can Insure your precious heirlooms with your allocated Home Insurance company.
If you have credible Insurance on your valuable and treasured belongings at least you will be able to claim for the monetary value of them should the very worst happen! You may have taken your favoured item of jewellery out of its locked and sealed box to wear on a special occasion and somehow it got lost, stolen or broken! You may unfortunately have become a victim to a professional burglar or an opportunist thief, whatever the circumstances that your precious item is taken you will easily be able to make a claim on your Insurance if you have it listed separately and have proof of its existence.
If you don’t have your individual precious pieces listed with your Insurance carrier you can still claim if they get lost or stolen but the value will only be covered by your general home policy and more than likely won’t cover the cost to replace them with a new one of the same worth. It’s just like any other type of Insurance cover; you hope and pray you will never have to make a claim but if unfortunately, you do at least you will be fully covered. Like travel, pet or life Insurance, the instalments seem expensive at the time, but they are worth every penny if for any reason you do have to make a claim!
