Living in the market town of Oldbury in the West Midlands

Although the market town of Oldbury is a fairly built up, industrial area, there are some wonderful green spaces to enjoy.  The lovely Tividale Park, and then the Broadwell Park where you can work out on the array of fitness equipment and exercise stations there as well as just sitting beside the small stream that runs through it.  There are several large residential areas around Oldbury itself including, Bristnall Fields, Brades Village, Brandhall, Causeway Green and Hill Top. The Causeway Green area has a lovely restaurant, a local Post Office, newsagent, fish and chip shop, Chinese takeaway and an Army Reserve Centre where local cadets and other potential soldiers go to train.  The PDSA opened a wonderful pet hospital in July 2015 on St Matthews Road and treats hundreds of poorly cats and dogs there every year.

Living in Oldbury has many advantages, because of its large industrial areas there are plenty of job opportunities there.  Digital Marketing Companies, electricians, plumbers and builders have businesses there and if you were ever to need a sewer pipe repaired or a Drain Lining Oldbury for example you could contact a reputable firm such as https://www.wilkinson-env.co.uk/sewer-repairs-drain-lining-concrete-cutting/drain-repairs/drain-repairs-oldbury/ to get the job completed. There are several very good schools in Oldbury including four Academies, Bristnall Hall, Oldbury, Perryfields, and Q3, as well as St Francis Xavier Primary School and Christ Church Primary.  There are also several notable people who were born and raised in the town including, the archaeologist and star of the television show “Time Team”, Mick Aston.  The photographer, Martin Elliot famous for his “Tennis Girl” poster, and songwriter and music-hall performer, Jack Judge who is probably best remembered for composing the war time song,” It’s a long way to Tipperary”.

The hilariously funny comedian Frank Skinner lived in the town and went to the local schools there, including, Moat Farm Infants, Oldbury Technical School and St Hubert’s Roman Catholic Juniors. The British triathlete, Jodie Stimpson was born in Oldbury and proudly brought home two gold medals to the town, for both the individual and Team Relays from the 2014 Commonwealth games. Further back in the town’s history, in 1870 to be precise, Dr Frank B. G. Stableford who famously invented the eponymous golf scoring system lived there.  There is a busy railway station in Bromford Road, Oldbury and the M5 motorway runs on an elevated, reinforced section, directly through the town.
